remembered by many not for the joy the festive season should bringbut for the harsh economic times currently ravaging Canada It is hard for mothers and fathers to be merry when it basically is all parents can do to simply make ends meet How can money be lavishly spent on gifts when the fear some prospect of unemployment lurks like a dark shadow over previously happy proceedings The dinner table that used to be full to overflowing in years past now appears to be bereft of bounty that once was taken for granted at this time of the year One thing that harsh economic times cant take away however is family love So the thermostat is turned down a bit lower and there arent as many presents scattered around the tree as there were in years past And quite possibly not nearly the amount of food that used to be consumed on a daily basis throughout the holiday season So what Mothers and fathers love for each other and their children can make even the darkest of times just a little bit brighter and less threatening A family hug at Christmas a sign of togetherness that can never be torn apart is perhaps the best gift of all Give your family a hug for Christmas From the Herald family we wish you and yours a big hug as well and a safe and happy Christmas Community Forum 1992 predictions HARRY GEORGETOWN We will struggle to win back Quebec MICHAEL GEORGETOWN This recession will lead to a
