the HERALD- Page Community Wednesday January Workers Compensation Board schedules meetings The Workers Compensation Board WCB will continue its precedentsetting meetings to hear public view son entitlement and workplace stressors policy proposals in Hamilton from Jan to 23 This is the first time the WCBs Board of Directors BOD itself has scheduled public meetings The Hamilton meetings the sixth of those scheduled throughout the Boards seven regions from October to March 31 will beheld in the Hamilton Convention Centre Room Albion A beginning at 9 am to pm Separate meetings will be held on the two issues with entitlement being addressed first The meetings will be chaired by WCB Chairman Odoardo Santo or a designate and will be attended by BOD ViceChairs the Honorable Robert Stanbury representing employers and James Goodison representing workers Other BOD members may attend any meeting for Police clarification Regional Police has had to correct its initial report concerning an alleged sexual assault incident in Glen Williams The case involved a complaint filed by a 17yearold Georgetown woman who reported to police she had been sexually assaulted during a party Jan Police initially reported Georgetown and District Memorial Hospital had refused to use the sitals Sexual Assualt kit on the vic tim to gather evidence concerning the alleged incident However police now report the hospital didnt refuse the request Georgetown hospital officials didnt use its kit because the woman said she wanted to have the procedure done at Peel Memorial Hospital police now say An investigation into the alleged sexual assault incident itself is still ongoing which they are available Entitlement refers broadly to a series of issues related to when and how a worker should be considered to have suffered a workrelated injury by accident that entitles the worker to benefits under Ontarios Workers Compensation Act The stressors policy pro posal deals with the possible com pensability of workassociated stress including such key areas as establishing an employment and medical connection and the role of personnelrelated stressors We already know from responses to the consultation papers that these policies are of vital interest to Board stakeholders commented Mr Di Santo Thats why the Board of Directors decided to hold public meetings We want to hear firsthand the views of any and all stakeholders before we begin the difficult business of making final decisions in these critical areas The meetings are not quasi- judicial but part of the BODs public consultation process The BOD hopes that the dates scheduled for each location will accommodate both the entitle ment and workplace stressor meetings However they are prepared to schedule additional times and locations as required Additional meetings have already been scheduled for the Toronto area at the end of January and late March Continued interest in these issues has led to the development of a new
