take place Most of us are worrying about keeping the jobs we have or are out looking for employment and reading about the doom and gloom of the economy No one is taking the time to think about the af Peoples Forum Glen water problem bubbles over Dear Editor With and canvassing on our behalf to the powers that be about water quali ty in Halton I would like to relate my own little horror story right here in Glen Williams In October my wife was con sidering taking children in to babysit through an agency One of the prerequisites of the agency was a visit from the health in spector which was arranged a week after his visit we were in formed that our water was unfit to drink because it had a total count greater than He suggested we call our landlady and tell her of the pro blem so she could make ar rangements for the provision of safe drinking water When our landlady was contacted not only did she refuse to provide us with safe drinking water she later delivered three one gallon jugs of water one of which was an old bleach jug She refused to give the health department access to the proper ty to conduct further tests She then went to accuse the health department of waging war on all wells in the Glen of purposely condemning them so they could push through the installation of town water that much faster The day after she was called she came down and dumped some bleach down the well so much in fact that the house ed and our eyes watered We were advised by the health department not to bathe ourselves in this water and cer tainly not our one year old son A week later another sample was taken then tested The result was not safe to drink even after boiling Previously we were told we could drink the water if it were first boiled for at least 20 minutes After another week yet another test was taken after the well was flushed The result is that we can drink the water again only after at least minutes boiling The health inspector finally did get together with our landlady and took a look at the well He said that until the cracks in the well casing were repaired we would not be able to drink the water without first boiling Our landlady now accepts that the water is bad She now also ac cepts that the town water coming to the Glen has nothing to do with the health department and their inspection practices She also has decided that since town water is an inevitability why waste money on well repairs when she is only going to have to pay for town water as well Ill tell you why because the health of my wife my son the lady downstairs and myself depends on it They sound like awfully frivolous reasons I know but I like to think theyre valid Well Im sick of playing bacteriological pinkpong In March Im moving my fami ly to Acton Itll be worth the drive
