We need to support and encourage promising youth leaders, as their actions can make an incredible impact on peoples lives and to our communities, said Gilgan. Gilgan went on to say he created the bursary award after he was inspired by his YMCA swim instructor, 22-year-old Ng. Like many young YMCA staff, Gilgan said, she demon- strated that youth are passionate and dedicated to serv- ing their community and making a difference. Do not underestimate youth and their ambitions to help others; instead respect, encourage and support f them, said Jarvis Sheridan, board chair of the YMCA o Oakville. We are very proud of our youth staff and volunteers at the YMCA and of their contributions to building a strong community. Thank you Peter for seeing an oppor- tunity and investing in youth leaders. Many young people find valuable volunteer experi- ences and their first employment at the YMCA. As an employer, the YMCA of Oakville is committed to training and developing young people to become the next genera- tion of community leaders.
