sessions, they were finding the keys because theyre hearing it sung beside them and all around them, Curtis said. The music will consist of familiar top 40 hits, including rock, R&B and soul. For now, there will be the two locations, which can have a maximum of 40 people per session, but Curtis aims to expand it further eventually. My Pop Choir will also form a per- formance choir of willing members, who will be able to perform at non-profit charity events. In a year there will be three 10-session terms. The first term will open on Tuesday, Sept. 13 in Oakville at the Church of the Incarnation, located at 1240 Old Abbey Lane. The Toronto sessions will be on Mondays. The cost to attend is $200 per term. There is also a Pop-In option, where people can pay $20 to come to the first session to decide if they want to come to the remainder of the term. Though no musician herself, she understands the value of singing having been sur- rounded by music, her father being a professional musician and her mother a professional dancer. Im the target group. Im a member. I love to sing, she said. I have sung in public on a stage only a couple of times, in a role because Ive done a lot of theatre. But Im by no means a singer. Her partner, Wootten, is a the- atre director and choreographer. Though neither is a singer, both have experience in performance. There will be a choirmaster to lead each of the groups during their once-a-week sessions. The choirmasters are professional musicians and voice coaches. The choirmasters play the piano, which are available at both locations, to help lead the groups in song. We want to be able to teach people all the nuanc- es of the song, getting all the notes right in all the right places, Curtis said. Its teaching them that and full harmonies. We want people to get the full choral sound to some fun, funky music. My Pop Choir held a test session in Toronto with great success, she said. There were people at this test session that said, Ill come but so you know I sound horrible and I sing off key but I love to sing. The pair is hosting an exhibit, titled Nature in Colours, as part of the Art on the Bluffs 2011 series. The show opens Saturday, Aug. 27 and ends Sept. 7. Both artists say they have a love of nature, which is evident in their work. Reul-Seibert said her work shows a con- nection to nature and earth, using earthly colours. She uses moor chalk, a century old material often used in the renaissance and other modern materials, including acrylics on either canvas or wood. Seibts work, on the other hand, focuses on oceans and marine life. The work is influ- enced by the endless variety of forms and functions found in the creatures which inhabit the seas. She uses acrylic and mixed media for paintings. Together, they have a balance between land and water in their show. The historic Sovereign House is located at 7 West River St. in Bronte.
