The Bronte Harbour Yacht Club will be celebrating its annual Bronte Rocks Regatta, which along with the boat races, will include parties each day and night. The regatta takes place Friday to Sunday. It is one of the largest such events on Lake Ontario with close to 100 boats expected to compete. There are 10 divisions of races, from the elite to the cruising division. Racing begins on Saturday morn- ing with the first fleet warning gun at 11 a.m. Three races are scheduled for Saturday and two for Sunday. The race course is located directly out of the mouth of Bronte Harbour, a little more than a mile into Lake Ontario. The boats will be visible from the pier and lighthouse between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. Each late afternoon and evening, there will be a full schedule of live music and food on the yacht clubs property. On Friday at 8 p.m. there will be live music by Joe May and Tropical Daze. On Saturday a margarita bar opens at 4 p.m. From 5:30 to 8 p.m., there will be a barbecue chicken dinner with live music by Ian Leslie and at 8 p.m. Fiddlestix will take over the musical entertainment. On Sunday the margarita bar opens at 4 p.m. again. From 5 to 8 p.m. there will be a barbecue steak dinner and live music and dancing begins at 7 p.m. with Tianna H Jazz with a Twist. Kelley's Angels car wash The third annual Kelleys Angels car wash and barbecue is this Sunday in Bronte. The fundraiser is in hon- our of Kelley Pennycook, 27, who passed away with colon cancer on Nov. 6, 2009. The event is meant to raise awareness for cancers below the belt such as ovarian, pros- tate, colon, and more. Proceeds from this years event will go towards the Jurvanski Cancer Centre in Hamilton. The car wash is from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Bronte Sobeys parking lot. The cost for a car wash is $8. A barbecue from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. will serve hamburgers, hot dogs and refreshments. The event will also feature a raffle, colon cancer aware- ness booth. Oakville firefighters from the Bronte station will also be on hand to help wash cars. Following the birth of her son Jacob in 2008, Kelly was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer.
