With about a week left in August, the not-for-profit organization issued an alert that it was facing a $100,000 funding defi- cit that needed to be resolved by the end of month. The alert contained a plea for 100 partners to donate $1,000 each. David Di Sabatino, KSM executive direc- tor, said 40 donors have stepped forward with $1,000 donations, plus more online donations are still being counted. While still short of $100,000, enough money has been donated to relieve the financial strain KSM found itself under, for the time being. We havent achieved our $100,000 goal, a relieved Di Sabatino said. We have gotten out of our crunch crisis. That is good. Were in a much better position than we were going into this. Despite falling short of its goal, Di Sabatino said the organization is in a bet- ter position to continue helping Oakvilles marginalized citizens. Were not out of our situation by any stretch of the imagination, but it really puts us in a better place, he said. More donations will still be needed, but Di Sabatino said September is looking much brighter than the end of August did. Were still needing to raise that sup- port. We still need it, but the crisis mode is not where it was before, he said. Di Sabatino thanked the community for bailing the organization out in such quick time. A huge thank you to all the people who stepped up to the plate, he said. I know the mayor was on board with this, which I hope helped push some other people to support us as well. Its a big encourage- ment to us. Taking over the reins of the organiza- tion on July 18, Di Sabatino did not know what to expect when he sent out a word for help, but has since been pleasantly sur- prised and encouraged by the support that came from the community. Because Im a newcomer to this area and to this community, I really didnt know how realistic a situation we were looking at. I am really overwhelmed and shocked with the response, he said. The organization is still looking for new partners in the community. Though last weeks call for help asked people for $1,000 donations each, he said all donations, no matter how small or large, are appreciat- ed. Any donation is a valued donation, he said. We continue to ask people to continue their support with us. We want to continue doing great things in this community and we want more people involved with it. f Anyone interested in becoming one o $KSM's 100 partners can make a 1,000 donation on the Kerr Street Ministries website at www.kerrstreet.com or call 905- 845-7485. KSM serves more than 5,000 people by providing holistic support and care, par- ticularly to children, youths and low-in- come families.
