Highlights from the season included winning the Ontario District 1 minor championship and reaching the finals of the Little League Ontario minor champion- ship. Pitchers Dylan Whittaker, Mitchell Howie and Adam Sarafinchan were key to the team's f success, as was the defence o catcher James St. Louis, third baseman/shortstop Tyson Bartlett, first baseman Brian Bowman and outfielder Steven Hospital. Also contributing to the strong season were Nicholas Jaeggin, Jibran Qureshi, Daniel Symonds, Emily Baxter and Jack Swanson. Sean Seguin, Doug Bartlett and Mike St. Louis coached the squad. f lSuccess u campaign for minor Whitecaps CAPS OFF: The Oakville Whitecaps minor team won two tournaments and reached the finals of the Little League Ontario minor championships this year. Lewis, national v-ball team earn bronze Oakvilles Dan Lewis and the Canadian mens national volleyball team won a bronze medal at the Central America and Caribbean Championships after beating Puerto Rico, 25-20, 25-23, 25-14 recently in Mayaguez, Mexico. Before playing for bronze, Canada nearly upset Cuba in the semifinals. Canada 2-1 before Cuba, ranked sixth in the world, rallied to win in five sets, 23-25, 25-17, 24-26, 25-17, 15-9. Canada was ranked 22nd in the world heading into the tournament. It had won nine straight matches, including all three of its round-robin matches at the tournament, before falling to Cuba. U14 girls fifth at national beach tournament Abbey Park High School students Sarah Williams and Victoria Gorrell teamed up to finish fifth at the national under-14 girls' beach volleyball champion- ships recently in Toronto. Williams and Gorrell lost just two games in pool play to finish second in their division, advancing to the Tier 1 playoffs. The duo then upset a previously-unde- feated squad in its first playoff game before bowing out in the second knockout round. Local sprinter to compete in Pan Am Games f St. Thomas Aquinas grad Miana Griffiths is one o 17 track-and-field athletes that will represent Canada at this year's Pan American Games.
