The work of the 33 agencies meets the UWOs goal of supporting families and youths in crisis. The fundraising target is developed based on need and numbers previously seen. The needs are only increasing, said Barbara Burton, CEO of the UWO. One of the reasons were really stretch- ing our campaign to $4 million is that its really important individuals get the support they need, said Burton. While most residents may not realize that if they havent had need of a UWO-funded agency, its likely a friend, relative, neigh- bour or co-worker has. The amount we were allocating in the past few years, was not totally meeting the needs of the individual agencies, said Burton. If successful this year, it will, said Burton. The growth in population of Oakville and the economys recovery moving slower than some would like, have combined to increase need, which in some instances, has resulted in waiting lists for services.
