Their commitment to the game and to learning has been very impressive, Coccimiglio said, and theyve bought into what were trying to do. The vet- erans respect where they are today, which is a good sign for two 16-year-olds. Defensively, Bradley Ryan, Phil Hampton and Stephen Hickey return from a blueline corps that helped the Blades allow the third- fewest goals in the OJHL a season ago. Aidan Orbinski, Brook Bottachio and Patrick Arnold are new additions to the defensive corps. Which goaltender theyll play in front of most nights this year has yet to be determined. James Prigione got the start Tuesday in Buffalo and made 19 saves in the victory, but Moore and Coccimiglio say they arent sure who will get the bulk of playing time in goal for the Blades this season. The last three to four years, weve tried to have a 1-A and 1-B (goalie system), Moore said. You make people compete for it and theres nothing worse than com- placency on a hockey team. We want two capable goalies our team feels confident with. Prior to tomorrows home opener, the Blades will honour Jimmy Shanks. Shanks passed away earlier this year as the lon- gest-serving member of the Blades organization, having volunteered with the club for more than 25 years in various capacities. The Blades, who will wear a crest with Shanks initials on their jerseys this season, will also recognize all their other volun- teers during a pre-game ceremo- ny. Jimmy was a volunteer, and a true volunteer, Coccimiglio said. Following the ceremonies, the Blades will renew acquaintances with the rival Raiders.
