Terry Fox 1980 The 31st annual Oakville Terry Fox Run takes place this Sunday, and all Oakville residents are invited to honour Terry Fox and continue his Marathon of Hope to raise money for cancer research. The run will be held at Coronation Park, on Lakeshore Road just east of Third Line. Last year the event moved to Coronation Park, a family- friendly venue and participants seemed to thor- oughly enjoy it. Families can make a day of it, and enjoy all that there is to do at Coronation Park before and after taking part in the Run. Participants are reminded there is no parking in Coronation Park itself, and are asked to observe all No Parking signs on side streets nearby. The run begins at 10 a.m., with registration beginning at 9 a.m. Participants can choose to run, walk, bicycle, or inline skate either a 5K or 10K route. Participants will start the run to the sound of Elizabeth Sheridan's Highland bagpipes. The opening ceremonies will once again be hosted by Dan Ferrone and will commence at 9 a.m. Dorothy and Daisy Progosh will lead in the singing of O Canada. Before and after the run, participants will be entertained by former Bronte Idol Emelia Sadowski and music by the Retro Rock Lounge. Watch for Jeannie Jelly Beans walking through the crowd as well as children's activities. gThe Kinsmen Club of Oakville will be sellin ham and egg on a muffin from 8:30 a.m. until noon, with all proceeds donated to the Terry Fox Run. Longo's will be providing fresh fruit and water and Voortmans has supplied cookies for participants. The Bronte BIA is pitching in by operating the halfway water station. A limited number of Terry Fox t-shirts will be available for $17 for adults and $15 for children, with all proceeds going to the Terry Fox Run. Lick's Bronte Village has donated coupons, which will be available for all participants when they finish the run. There will also be a remembrance book for Betty Fox, so participants can sign the book, which will be forwarded to Terry's family. Pledge sheets can be downloaded at www. terryfoxrun.org or are available at Town recre- ation centres. Registration is also available on site on the day of the run. All Terry Fox Runs are volunteer organized and the Terry Fox Foundation is proud of the fact that 85 per cent of all funds donated by Canadians of all ages and through Terry Fox Runs around the world go directly to research into treatments for all forms of cancer. Terry Fox ran a marathon a day in 1980. Honour his memory by taking part in this non- competitive event where people get together to raise money in Terrys name. It is a day of celebrat- ing Terrys legacy and helping to keep his dream of a cure for cancer alive.
