The two spoke to media, flanked by members of essen- tial Halton services such as police and fire departments, Tuesday morning in Oakville, asking the PC party to commit to continuing provincial uploading as the other three major parties have done. In the last little while there has been a tendency to put more and more on the property tax in provincial gov- ernment, Carr said. Going back to when I was a member of provincial parliament, government has been downloading services onto munici- palities. Thats one of the reasons in the late 90s I voted against the downloading bill. I said at that time it was wrong and its still wrong. He said the current provincial government has shifted that practice and has been taking on more provincial services and hopes that will continue as it affects impor- tant services in the region. Carr added Halton residents have been fortunate to have great service people who have helped make the Beaver Trails 32 Pages $1.00 (plus tax) A member of Metroland Media Group Ltd. Hosted by the Oakville YMCA and Halton Poverty Roundtable, the meeting drew a crowd of more than 80 people as well as Oakville Liberal incumbent MPP Kevin Flynn, Progressive Conservative (PC) candi- date Larry Scott, NDP candidate Lesley Sprague and independent candidate Mike Harris. These contenders for the Oct. 6 election were asked a variety of questions including one about their position on continuing to grow the Canada/Ontario Affordable Housing Program particularly its home ownership component. Harris stated he was in favour of methods that would increase home ownership to those in need, provided those methods did not take the form of government handouts, but rather q p yCandidates uizzed on overt issues See Candidates page 3 See Region page 5 Burton and Carr want uploading to continue TRIUMPH AT BRITISH CAR DAY: The Toronto Triumph Club held its annual British Car Day at Bronte Creek Provincial Park last weekend.
