Running in Oakville seems to appeal to Predrag Mladenovic. The Toronto resident was the fastest to cross the finish line at Sundays Oakville Half Marathon, completing the 21-kilometre course in a time of 1:10:28. It marked the fourth time in five years Mladenovic has been the overall champion at the event, formerly known as the Oakville Labour Day Half. He did not compete at last years event after winning it the previous three years. Tammy Purdy of Mississauga broke her own event record en route to winning the half mara- thons female title. Purdy crossed the line in 1:24:14, eclipsing the 1:27:02 standard she set a year ago. This years Oakville Half Marathon event drew more than 1,500 runners and walkers in the half marathon, 10-kilometre and 2K races. This was the first time in the events five-year history that it wasnt held on the Labour Day weekend. (We are) very pleased with a record-setting turnout this year, said Landmark Sports Groups Ben McCarty, the race director. The community support was outstand- ing and the volunteerrs were fantas- tic. Our race continues to grow every year.
