Oakville defeated Erin Mills 3-0 to conclude an undefeated three-game run in League Cup play. Oakville previously defeated St. Catharines 3-1 and Dixie 8-0. Prior to the League Cup final, Oakville blanked St. Catharines 3-0 to win the South Region Soccer League elite division title and earn promotion to the Ontario Youth Soccer League for 2012. The team also won the Nike Challenge Cup and Barrie Spiritfest tournaments earlier this season while reaching the finals at the Frank Sobil tournament in Oshawa. The Titans held a 7-6 lead in the third quarter until Nelson scored a touchdown on a long punt return. The Lords added a field goal late in the game. Holy Trinitys major came on a pass from Michael Brooks to Declan Cross. Brooks kicked the convert to account for the Titans other point in the loss, which dropped Trinity to 1-1. Nelson improved to 2-0. We had poor execution on offence and special teams for most of the game and made some critical errors that Nelson capitalized on, said Trinity head coach Joe Moscato. The team recently defeated the Brampton Blast to win the South Region Soccer League championship, shortly after claiming top spot in its division and win- ning the South Region Soccer League First Division crown with a 12-2 record. The strong year will vault Oakville into the SRSLs Elite Division next season.
