www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, October 7, 2011 · 18 Empty Bowls puts super into soup on Oct. 16 H ome Suite Hope is very excited to be holding its fifth annual Empty Bowls event on Sunday, Oct. 16. It will be held by its new host sponsor at St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School. Individuals will line up in the school's brand new dining hall in anticipation of tasting the delicious fare from a record 19 restaurants and caterers that will provide soups for the event. The stellar list of soup providers includes: Bite Me Twice; Campbell's; Catered Fare; Cora; Corks Restaurant; Dana Foods; Jennifer's Kitchen; Jonathans of Oakville; J.M.C Concrete Interlocking Fall Special 10% off · STAMPED T CONCRETE · INTERLOCKING · EXPOSED AGGREGATE A · FLAGSTONE · FRENCH CURBS · RETAINING T WALLS · GARAGE FLOORS Free estimates www.jmcconcreteandinterlocking.building.officelive.com 905-878-8595 Ask for John Kerr Street Café; Longo's; Montfort Mediterranean Cuisine; Oliver & Bonacini Café Grill; Pasquale's Trattoria; Revera; 3 S's; Seasons Restaurant; Sharkey's Grill & Bar; Stoney's Bread Company and Whole Foods Market. St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School is going all out in support of this incredible event that engages more than 1,000 members of the community. For example, students from St. Mildred'sLightbourn will be providing a very interactive and engaging experience as EB attendees wend their way through the soup lineup, to help attendees learn more about the growing problem of suburban homelessness. Diversity is a key element to the curriculum at St. Mildred's-Lightbourn school this year, and economic diversity is a part of the learning process. Many people in Oakville do not realize that homelessness is growing in their community, and that 85 per cent of the more than 8,300 lowincome households in Halton are found in Oakville and Burlington. For attendees at the Empty Bowls event, the wait in line proves rewarding, not only because they will select a beautifully painted hand-crafted bowl they will take home with them (the bowl is included in the ticket price), but also because they will be supporting some of the most vulnerable families in their community. Tickets to the Empty Bowls event cost $55 and include a $25 charitable donation that goes directly to Home Suite Hope's work in providing transitional housing and outreach services to families in Halton that are facing homelessness or a housing crisis. Tickets can be purchased online at www. homesuitehope.org. -- Submitted by Home Suite Hope It's not just a school, it's a close community where I am encouraged to discover and learn.
