It's all part of a Jail-a-thon fundraising initiative the local crime-solving program is hosting Monday, Nov. 14 at Jay Lockwood Chrysler on Wyecroft Road, east of Dorval Road. Starting at noon, Mayor Rob Burton, will take the bench as a celebrity judge to hear charges against some of the individuals snagged in the Crime Stoppers net. Jay Lockwood, dealership owner, is, according to the latest Crime Stoppers release on the event, a chronic repeat offender at Jail-a-thon events and Burton will likely be forced to impose a substantial penalty that may keep Lockwood in the makeshift jail for a considerable time. Gary McLean, chair of Halton's Crime Stoppers program, said the Jaila-thon hoosegow is so much like home to Jay Lockwood that the Crime Stoppers board asked if the event could be held at his dealership. "He is one of the jailbirds who has supported our jail-a-thon on a regular basis during the past four years," McLean said. "It's wonderful to have business owners who are willing to make such a commitment to help keep the community safe." McLean said Halton Crime Stoppers is still looking for others to participate in the event as jailbirds to help raise money to bolster the program's reward fund. "The board actually made a lastminute decision to hold a Jail-a-thon to cover a shortfall in our budget after Halton Crime Stoppers paid out more reward money than we had anticipated," McLean said. "We had the shortfall because of our success." Crime Stoppers is asking anyone who wishes to take part in the Jail-athon and raise donations for the program to contact Jane MacIntosh at the Crime Stoppers office, 905-825-4747 ext. 5139.
