5 · Wednesday, November 9, 2011 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com Services for Remembrance Day on Friday The Royal Canadian Legion Oakville Branch 114 will hold its annual Remembrance Day service on Friday, Nov. 11, with a parade making its way to George's Square Cenotaph at 11 a.m. The parade will muster in the Church and Navy Street area with veterans (followed by members of the Armed Forces, RCMP, OPP, Halton Police, Oakville firefighters, Knights of Columbus, Cadets, Scouts and Guides and local dignitaries) beginning their march to the George's Square Cenotaph at 10:30 a.m. The 11 a.m. ceremony in George's Square will include the playing of The Last Post t and a wreath laying ceremony. A second unofficial Remembrance Day ceremony will take place at the Trafalgar Memorial, located in the east end of Memorial Park at the corner of Oak Park Boulevard and Central Park Drive, on Friday at 11 a.m. Organized by Ward 5 Councillors Jeff Knoll and Marc Grant and others, the ceremony's audience has steadily grown in size since the Trafalgar Memorial was dedicated in 2005. Meanwhile, the Burl-Oak Naval Veterans will host a Remembrance Day Sunrise Parade at 9 a.m. Friday at the Canadian Naval Ships Memorial in Spencer Smith Park in neighbouring Burlington. The ceremony will include the remembrance and laying of wreaths in memory of all those who took part in wars, especially those who gave their lives to preserve our freedom. The Burl-Oak Naval Veterans are all persons who have served in the Navy at some time. For information, contact, 905-632-3118.
