Hooper was fifth in men's 30-34 competition while Churchill was 10th in women's 30-34 action. Lee Hooper and Erin Churchill both posted top-10 finishes in their respective ages group at the World Triathlon Championships, held recently in Beijing. Hooper was fifth in the men's 30-34 division while Churchill placed 10th in the women's 30-34 grouping at the championships. The two triathletes were dealt a bit of a curveball on race day in Beijing, which featured nine-degree temperatures and pouring rain. Hooper and Churchill had trained all summer in the heat and humidity, expecting similar conditions in China, and Churchill ended up being treated for hypothermia after the race. The duo trained with the Triathlon Club of Burlington and Racer Sportif in Oakville for the previous year. Hooper and Churchill qualifed for worlds last year with medal showings at the national triathlon championships. Hooper won gold and Churchill earned a bronze at the 2010 nationals in Kelowna, B.C. Hampton captaining Canada East Phil Hampton was named captain of the Canada East team at the World Jr. A Challenge in Langley, B.C. The Oakville Blades defenceman is representing Canada East for the second time, having helped the team reach the final last year. Canada East opened the tournament Monday with a 5-0 victory over the Czech Republic and faced Russia last night (Wednesday). Braeden Russell and Patrick Megannety of Oakville are also playing for Canada East. HOCKEY YBRIEFS Percy is now in his third season with the Majors after being selected in the first round of the Ontario Hockey League draft in 2009. The Toronto Maple Leafs first-round draft pick recorded seven goals and 51 points in 116 games over his first two seasons. Last season, after finishing second in the OHL with a plus-50 mark, Percy had a breakout performance in the playoffs with 12 points in 20 games. He added four assists in five games in the Memorial Cup as he helped the Majors reach the final and was named to the all-tournament team. Percy has two goals and nine points in 12 games this season, as well as a plus-11 mark.
