Dyer will address the long-term implications of global warming in his lecture, The Climate Wars. The public is welcome to attend. A native of Newfoundland who studied at universities in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom, Dyer received his PhD in military and Middle Eastern history from the University of London. Dyer served in the Canadian, American and British navies. He taught military history and war studies for two years at the Canadian Forces College in Toronto and for four years at the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst. Since he left teaching in 1973, Dyer has worked as a freelance journalist, broadcaster and lecturer. His syndicated columns on international affairs appear in a dozen languages in nearly 200 newspapers published in more than 40 countries around the world. Halton Regional Police say they received the call March 8 reporting that an occupant of 126 Deane Ave. "required assistance." No one was home when they arrived at the local home, but police say they did find a marijuana grow operation in the basement. The drug and morality bureau then started an investigation and a short time later, two people were arrested. A search warrant was executed and police say they seized 69 marijuana plants at various stages of growth, 440 grams of dried marijuana and related growing equipment. Charged with production of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking are Murray Hilton, 46 and Doris O'Rourke, 38.
