That means a home assessed at $400,000 will pay an additional $43.72 in town taxes this year. Add in the regional portion of the tax bill, which has increased by 2.5 per cent, and Oakville taxpayers will need to ante up an extra $21.07 per $100,000 of assessment. The $166 million operating budget includes money to pay for extended library hours at Glen Abbey and Iroquois Ridge recreation centres, and $155,000 to improve library services in the Clearview area. Car crash knocks out power By Krissie Rutherford OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF See Status page 7 A man is in intensive care at a Toronto hospital after the car he was in lost control and struck a hydro pole in Oakville Friday night. The wooden utility pole was cut off at its base, fell on the car and trapped the man for more than two hours, according to the Regional Traffic Bureau. The crash also wiped out power in parts of Oakville and Burlington. The injured man was riding in the passenger seat when the accident happened on Upper Middle Road near Neyagawa Boulevard. "He is expected to recover," says Halton Regional Police spokesperson Peter Payne.
