Bill 13, the Accepting Schools Act, was introduced at Queen's Park last week, but will probably not be debated or voted on until the next session of the assembly, which begins in February. If passed, Bill 13 would implement tougher consequences for bullying and "activities motivated by bias, prejudice or hate" -- up to and including suspension and expulsion. It would also require all schools to support any students who want to lead activities that promote understanding, acceptance and respect for all. Kevin Flynn The proposed bill states, "All school boards would also be required to develop policies and guidelines to provide greater support for students who want to `establish and lead activities or organizations that promote gender equity anti-racism, the awareness and understanding of, and respect for, people with disabilities or the awareness and understanding of, and respect for, people of f all sexual orientations and gender identities.'" The bill's preamble explains its existence is necessary because all students should feel safe at school and deserve a positive school climate that is inclusive and accepting. New date d f for b boundary d review debate db By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF A special Town of Oakville council meeting to discuss the town's municipal ward boundary review has been postponed until Feb. 21. Town staff moved to postpone the meeting, originally set to take place Thursday, Dec. 8, after several councillors reported scheduling conflicts. The meeting will be held in Council Chambers at Town Hall, located at 1225 Trafalgar Rd. The boundary review has been prompted by the growing inequity of population in the existing six wards.
