Get out and run or walk at Santa Shuffle By Dominik Kurek OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Approximately 100 runners have registered to participate in this year's Santa Shuffle and the event organizer says there is room for more participants. The Salvation Army of Oakville's annual Santa Shuffle 5km Fun Run and 1km Elf Walk will take place in downtown Oakville, starting from The Running Room Saturday (Dec. 3) morning. The event will raise funds for the Salvation Army, all of which will remain in the community. "It's a good way to support the Salvation Army. All the proceeds from any donations that are collected go to help needy families this time of year," said Major Dan Broome, pastor of the local Salvation Army. "But, it's also a fun family event to help get people in shape and to help a good cause." The 5-km run is recommended to anyone who wants to run a longer distance, while the 1-km walk is something a family can enjoy. Santa Claus is expected to make an appearance and families will be able to have their photograph taken with him. The same day as the Oakville event, there will be more than 10,000 shufflers partici- 13 · Wednesday, November 30, 2011 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com ERIC RIEHL / OAKVILLE BEAVER RUNNING READY: Majors Dan and Wendy Broome of the Salvation Army of Oakville are pictured at The Running Room in downtown Oakville promoting this weekend's 5km Santa Shuffle. pating at 36 locations across Canada.
