www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, November 30, 2011 · 28 Blades l d b bracing themselves h l f for b busiest month h of f OJHL season By Jon Kuiperij BEAVER SPORTS EDITOR Forgive members of the Oakville Blades if they don't get all their Christmas shopping done in time. Rather than frequenting shopping malls over the next few weeks, the Blades will be busy playing hockey. A lot of it. Oakville is slated to play 10 contests in the first 23 days of December, including stretches of four games in six days and five games in eight days. That rigorous slate would be demanding enough of a professional squad, let alone an Ontario Junior Hockey League club. Blades head coach Matt Moore says he'll keep that in mind as he navigates his squad through the busiest stretch of the season. "Young guys aren't quite where a pro is... plus they have school and life and a lot of other activities that chip away at their fatigue levels," Moore says. "Our game plan is to balance our lineup... We'll try to use all guys in every situation as much as we possibly can." However, that doesn't mean Moore will be letting his foot off the gas, even though the Blades (17-3-4) lead the West Division by a point over the Georgetown Raiders and own three games in hand. "Ideally, you want your (top player) in the lineup every night because every point matters. Georgetown is right on our heels all the time," Moore says. "And, knock on wood, when you get past your division (in the playoffs), you want to have the best record (to get home ice advantage)." The Blades are also looking to snap out of a recent skid, having lost two of their last three games. Oakville pounded the Hamilton Red Wings 11-1 Friday at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, but a 5-4 loss to the Orangeville Flyers Saturday dropped Oakville to 0-3 in shootouts this year. "It's such a weird thing. We practice (shootouts) every Wednesday and watch guys who do fairly well in them," Moore says. "I'm a defenceman by trade, so it's hard to tell them to score. But we do work on it. We're cognizant we're 0-3." The Blades will get December's busy stretch underway Friday with a 7:30 p.m. home game against the Huntsville Otters at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex. Oakville will then travel to Georgetown Saturday and visit Hamilton Monday. NOTES: Braedan Russell enjoyed a five-point evening against the Red Wings Friday, scoring twice and adding three assists. Tyler Karius and Todd Bannerman also scored twice, with Sean Federow, Stephen Hickey, Brandon Denham, Lucas Tucciarone and Martin Kudla contributing singles. Denham had three assists while Bradley Ryan, Aidan Orbinski, Phil Hampton and Jordan Coccimiglio recorded a pair of helpers each. James Prigione made 34 saves to collect the victory... Liam Board, Coccimiglio, Denham and Kudla tallied in the loss to Orangeville. Coccimiglio also had two assists, and Prigione made 35 saves in the loss... Orangeville's roster includes Nikolai Borschevsky, son of the former Toronto Maple Leafs forward by the same name. The younger Borschevsky has four points in nine games this season.
