Sam, the youngest of two boys, died after his third liver transplant in the fall of 2007. "We will always miss him, but we have found hope and peace in the midst of our grief," said Travis. On Wednesday, Dec. 21, Travis will speak at a special service for those facing difficulty or loss this holiday season. "We are honoured to have Sarah share her experiences of sadness and grief," said Rev. Kristine O'Brien, minister at Trafalgar Presbyterian Church. "We hope it will offer solace to others. There are many people in Oakville who know only too well how hard the Christmas season can be." The Blue Christmas event seeks to help not just those who have been touched by tragedy like Travis' family but those who are facing the holidays amid divorce or illness, and those who are marking the first Christmas since the loss of a parent or spouse. Anyone from the Oakville community is welcome to attend the annual service. "There is no need to dress up or make a financial contribution," said O'Brien. "We recognize the difficulty of the season and simply hope to offer gentle carols and readings in a warm atmosphere." Visitors may remain anonymous if they wish.
