A first f partnership h Continued from page 1 13 · Thursday, December 15, 2011 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com The Province's investment will support a more than $90 million investment Goodrich is making over the next five years into research and development. The company will be striving to develop and manufacture more advanced and reliable landing gear systems; reduce environmental impacts with lighter, fuel-saving landing gear systems made with advanced materials; and secure new supply contracts for three Kevin Flynn aircraft. The investment was well received by Goodrich. "On behalf of Goodrich, I would like to thank the Government of Ontario for its support and its endorsement of Goodrich's planned investment of more than $90 million over the next five years," said Whittier. "The grant funding that was announced today will directly contribute to the development of a number of strategic technologies that will directly enhance our collective capabilities going forward. These include the evaluation and adoption of advanced lighter weight materials, environmentally-friendly service treatments, the enhancements of our manufacturing capabilities, the evaluation of robotics and other production enablers, and the further development of key technologies like health monitoring and electrical actuation. "Encompassing much of this R&D work will be our ongoing design and prototyping efforts that we are carrying out in collaboration with our key customers that will ultimately secure our longterm participation in a number of new aircraft development programs. There is indeed much to be excited about at Goodrich." Whittier said this investment will mark Goodrich's first partnership with the provincial government. With the doom and gloom of the recession dominating the headlines, Flynn said it is good to see a company like Goodrich expanding and pointed out one way out of the recession is through partnerships. "I think when we pull together we can achieve some things and seize some opportunities that other jurisdictions may simply let pass by," said Flynn.
