- Cyril "Ernest" Hopper, was born September 26, 1893 in Flesherton, Ontario, d. October 28, 1977, buried in Knox Church Sixteen, Oakville. His parents were William Cottell Hopper and Ellen (Shute) Hopper.
Ernie was a carpenter by trade. During World War I, he served in the 147th Grey Owen Sound Battalion, Regiment 838524, assigned to the Canadian Machine Gun Corps. He fought in the Battle for Hill 70 in August 1917 and in the Battle of Amiens in August 1918.
He was an elder of Knox Church Sixteen for 25 years. He married Harriet "Ettie" May King, b.July 7, 1896, d.April 14, 1984 in Oakville, buried in Knox Church Sixteen as well. They farmed at 3025 Sixth Line, just north of Dundas, Munn's Corners.
Ettie was the 8th child of George King and Mary Ann "Polly" (Helston) King who had separately emigrated as young people with their families, and after marriage farmed "The Pines" property on the Dundas Highway, Trafalgar Township. (George had actually been a London bobby before emigrating, and worked for the Toronto Police Force until 1889.)
The children of Ernie and Ettie Hopper are George "Keith" Hopper, b. December 4, 1924 d. May 23, 1998.
