The Bruins went 2-1 in round-robin play before blanking the LaSalle Sabres 4-0 in the final. LaSalle had handed Oakville a 3-0 loss earlier in the tournament. Previously, the Bruins hammered the Durham Crusaders 10-1 and downed the Brampton Sharpshooters 5-2. Oakville goaltender Callum Challis was named MVP in the championship game. Also contributing were Noah Gibson, Evan Mason, Ben Hosein, Jacob Hosein, Jordan Ng, Daniel Kelly, Jay Walden, Luke Kuta, Robbie Costa, Jeremy Clark, Chris Ivankovic, Ben Sosniak, Austin Fishwick, Kyle Medd and Shayan Shirazi. OAK swimmer sets another record Oakville Aquatic Club swimmer Marni Oldershaw set another Canadian age group record at the 13th annual Paul Bergen Junior International SCM Championships, held recently in Oregon. The Iroquois Ridge student, who has already committed to the University of Michigan for the 2012-13 season, won the 400-metre individual medley in a time of 4:38.52, breaking the national 15-17 girls' record of 4:39.03. It marked the 12th time Oldershaw has earned a spot in the Canadian record book (seven of those are in medley relays). Oldershaw added second-place efforts in the 200m backstroke and 200m individual medley at the Bergen meet, while also finishing fourth in the 800m freestyle and 13th in the 400m freestyle. She set OAK female 17-and-over records in all those events. Others to crack the top eight at the Bergen meet included Evan White, Peter Serles, Reid Scarrow and Mika Spencer. White was fifth in the 200m individual medley and sixth in both the 200m breaststroke and 400m individual medley; Serles came sixth in the 100m butterfly; Scarrow was sixth in the 100m freestyle and seventh in the 400m freestyle; and Spencer placed seventh in the 200m freestyle. OAK's men's senior relay teams were fourth in the 400m freestyle relay, fifth in the 400m medley relay and seventh in the 800m freestyle relay. Top-16 finishers at the meet also included Gamal Assaad, Mitchell Gour, Bryce KwiecienDelaney, Sharalynn Missiuna, Holly Olsen and David Whiteside. The Paul Bergen Junior International SCM Championships is the only meet of its kind in the United States, bringing together young swimmers (18 and under) from around the world. Since its inception in 1999, the competition has included swimmers from the United States, Canada, France, Germany and Mexico, many of whom have gone on to compete in world championships and Olympics. GOLD FOR GREYHOUNDS: The Oakville atom MD Greyhounds won all four of their games at the recent Blue and Gold Classic hockey tournament in Alliston, including a 4-3 overtime win over Leaside in the final.
