A family f l living l with hl loss f from war By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF This morning, for Remembrance Day, she will lay a wreath at the Cenotaph in George's Square, not just for herself and her loss, but for all the Oakville mothers whose children never came back from war. The Oakville and Bronte Legions announced last week that they named Edna Parker, mother of the late Colonel Geoff Parker of Oakville, this year's Silver Cross Mother. "I am absolutely honoured to represent the military mothers of Oakville," said Parker. Parker's son Geoff, 42, was killed in Afghanistan on May 18, 2010 when a suicide car bomber blew himself up beside the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), with which `Convoy Geoff' was travelling. Five American soldiers and 12 Afghan civilians were also killed in the attack. Geoff joined the Canadian Forces in 1989 through the regular officer training program and was working at the Canadian Forces' Land Force Central Area Headquarters in Toronto. He was married with two children. "I'm very proud of him . . . very proud of my son," said Parker. See Silver page 3 Col.
