Councillor Max Khan down, but he's 's fighting back By Michael Howie METROLAND WEST MEDIA GROUP Max Khan, the Ward 6 Town councillor, is fighting an old demon. Approximately three months ago, Khan began to feel ill. Recently, doctors were able to confirm a diagnosis: a relapse of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. "It was only about six weeks ago when the doctors properly diagnosed it," Khan said from his hospital bed at the Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton. "A month ago, it became more aggressive. I was taken to the emergency department at Toronto General from my law office, and have since transferred (to Juravinski.)" Khan, now 43, first fought cancer in the "The prognosis looks good," Khan noted. "They're calling it a lowgrade lymphoma. We're starting chemotherapy, so if it has spread anywhere else, it will help attack that as well." Though Khan has been largely bed-ridden, on his good days he is responding to constituent e-mails and phone calls as often as possible. Largely though, he is relying on his counterpart, Ward 6 Councillor Tom Adams, to bear the brunt of the work. "I'm grateful for Tom," Khan said, "He's taking up a lot of the slack and bearing a lot of the duties for me during this time." Khan, who has a young son, has also received numerous calls and visits from friends, family and residents offering prayers in a fashion that makes him proud of his community. "I've spoken to people of all faiths -- and those without," Khan said with a faint smile in his voice. "They're all saying prayers for me. My bases are all covered. I feel so blessed." 5 · Friday, November 11, 2011 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com Inside d Opinion.............................................6 Artscene..........................................27 Worship..........................................29 Sports.............................................30 Classified........................................37 Full Delivery: New Homes, Dell Computer, HOme Hardware, Hooper's Pharmacy, Holland Park Garden, QEW Mazda, Hearing Solutions, Tim Hortons, LCBO, Embassy Refinishing, Starsky Finest, Alexanian Carpets, ACI Apostrophe, Oakaville Wrap, Mississauga Booster, Rabba Fine Foods, Ontario Colleges Partial Delivery: Bass Pro Shops, Michael's, The Brick, Goemans, B&H magazine For home delivery & customer service call (905) 845-9742 Mon., Tues. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Wed., Thu., and Fri. 9 a.m.-7 p.m. (open for calls only after 5 p.m.) Closed Sat. and Sun.
