- Jacob Johnson was born in Trafalgar Township, the son of James H. Johnson and Hannah Elizabeth Buck. His parents died when he was young and he was adopted by two different families. He stayed with the first family for about two years. The second family was named Crawford and lived at Lowville. He became a farm labourer and then a teamster with his own horses. He was also a rural mail carrier for a few years. He married Mary Ann Armstrong. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson had six sons. He came to Milton in 1882 and operated the first bowling alley and then went into the farm implement business before opening a garage in 1917 which he had until he died in 1940. He was survived by his wife and sons, Robert, Albert, Frank, Charles, Fred and James. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.
