Description
William Durie Lyon was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1825, the son of John Lyon, who emigrated to Canada in 1831 and settled in Esquesing Township. In 1853 he married Mary MacEachon (1822-1908). They had two sons and four daughters. He became a clerk in Mathias Teetzel's store in Milton. He became a member of the mercantile firm of White, Martin and Lyon. He also served as Postmaster for Milton. He was Mayor of Milton from 1862-1866. In 1867 he became a partner in a large lumbering business on Manitoulin Island. He was elected as a Reform Party member for Halton ln the Ontario Legislature. H died in 1893 and was survived by his wife, sons John and William and daughters Margaret, Catherine, Mary and Flora. He was buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
