- The Ford Motor Company of Canada opened its Canadian headquarters and plant in 1953. The Motor City Hotel was opened shortly afterwards, located on Lakeshore Road west of the Sixteen Mile Creek by Chisholm Street. The hotel later became the Royal Oak Hotel. Today the site is The Kensington, a senior's residence.
