By Dominik Kurek OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Busy beaver at work on Sixteen-Mile Creek An Oakville Beaver reader first spotted the beaver more than a month ago and later noticed the felled trees and teeth marks on tree trunks in the area of Speers Road and Cross Avenue. When our photographer went to the beaver's habitat, the animal was out. However, evidence of the beaver's work is clearly visible throughout the area. Beavers are known to cut down trees and build dams on rivers and streams using timber, mud and stones. Beavers also build lodges in the ponds created by their dams. The lodges are made of similar materials as the dams, are sturdy enough that predators cannot penetrate them and have underwater entrances.
