Ontario Used Tire Program aims to recycle tires into useful products Ontarians can now feel better about where their old tires are going with the launch of Ontario's Used Tire Program by Ontario Tire Stewardship (OTS). This program will ensure the more than 12 million scrap tires generated annually will now be diverted from burning and landfilling to other uses, such as rubber mats, playground products, hockey rinks and automotive parts. The Used Tires Program is an ambitious initiative to responsibly recycle scrap tires into useful products, creating investment and new green jobs, and driving innovation in Ontario. "Ontario's Used Tires Program will bring new life to the millions of used tires coming off vehicles every year," said Andrew Horsman, executive director of Ontario Tire Stewardship. "Funding for research and development to create new processes and markets for recycled rubber products within the province will create green jobs and economic benefits for Ontarians."
