Fund established to aid house fire victims By LISA TALLYN Staff Writer Dorothy Magloughlen, her daughter Kelly and their dogs are living in a trailer in their driveway after a fire extensively damaged the attic and second floor of their Caroline St. home Jan. 26. No one was injured in the blaze that started in the attic, but it's estimated it will cost between $30,000 and $50,000 to repair the home and make it livable again. Dorothy, 72, a widower who lives on a fixed income, does not have the money to do the repairs and she didn't have insurance on the home. Robert Sevigny, the owner of area drywalling company Master of Plaster, who knows the family through Kelly's boyfriend (an employee of his company) has set up a trust fund for the family to cover the cost of the repairs. "We are appealing to the community of Georgetown to assist us in helping Dorothy return home. The family awoke in the early hours of the morning to the sound of a crackling fire in the upstairs bedroom. Luckily, a quick response time by the Georgetown Fire Department contained the fire to the upper floor," said Sevigny. He explained that Dorothy has recently undergone major surgery (a quadruple bypass) and her daughter Kelly has been living with her to assist her with her convalescence. 5 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday, February 23, 2010 Contractor Robert Sevigny (right) of the company Master of Plaster has set up an account at TD Canada Trust to raise money from the community to help to repair the damage done to Dorothy Magloughlen's Caroline St. home during a fire last month. Those things that we take for granted do not exist for this family at this time." Sevigny has set up an account in the name of the Caroline Street Fire Fund to collect donations on behalf of the family. He said the goal is to raise $30,000 to replace the roof on the house and repair the damage to the upstairs bedroom. "If every resident in Georgetown donated one dollar per person then we could reach this goal," said Sevigny. Donations in the name of the Caroline Street Fire Fund can be made at any TD Canada Trust branch. Cheques made payable to the Caroline Street Fire Fund can also be received at the customer service desk at the Home Hardware store in Georgetown. Sevigny said he is also asking related businesses in town to offer their store as collection points for donations. "We have also come to work with many other construction trades and businesses in town that can assist us. If you are in a demolition, waste removal, framing or roofing business in town and wish to help Dorothy, we can be contacted at 416-6697616 or indsurplus@rogers.com for more information concerning the fund drive," said Sevigny. The family does not need any household items as a result of the fire, except for a bed for Kelly. Ronald S.
