Why would councillors not put police at risk, but do so with residents? Continued from page 6 13 · Friday, January 6, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com emergency system. However, it is short-sighted to think that not paying $36,000 on rental fees in Brookville is a "savings," when living in close proximity to cell towers may ultimately be creating health issues that will cost much more. Our councillors should not be trading the health concerns of local residents for a savings of $36,000. As for Industry Canada being given the final say as to where it's appropriate to place towers, there are many examples of previously government-approved practices and substances that were later proven unsafe. DDT, thalidomide and lead-containing fuel come to mind. Adding fluoride to municipal water is another example, a practice now ceased by some countries, and which will soon be on the agenda for reconsideration by Halton Regional Council. Thanks to councillors Johnston, Robinson, Damoff and Duddeck for voting against the cell tower modification motion. As for the rest of Council, why were you "not willing to put the police at risk after hearing the police chief's statement," yet you are willing to approve this motion and potentially put residents at risk? Not to mention the firefighters who work and sleep next to the tower, and the children and staff in the daycare beside the tower.
