Churches unite on Friday for World Day of Prayer The 2010 World Day of Prayer service will be held on Friday (March 5), 7:30 p.m. at the Georgetown Christian Reformed Church, 11611 Trafalgar Rd. Everyone is invited to hear speaker Henriette Thompson of Georgetown, who has worked for many years in international development and in ecumenical mission and justice work. Her work has taken her to all regions of the world, but primarily to Africa. This year, the women of Cameroon has written the prayer service with the theme, Let Everything That Has Breath Praise God. Everyone is welcome to attend and learn more about Cameroon and its unique culture and heritage. Cameroon, with more than 240 ethnic groups, is located in central Africa, above the equator at the extreme end of the Gulf of Guinea, on the Atlantic Ocean side. It is often described as "Africa in miniature" with a striking variety of landscapes. The World Day of Prayer is observed annual on the first Friday in March. It is an invitation for Christians to pause and pray together ecumenically. It is sponsored by the Women's Inter-Church Council of Canada and its international counterparts and is celebrated in more than 170 countries around the world.
