HILLSVIEW-NEWS FROM THE SENIORS CENTRES Acton Seniors Centre By JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre The Acton Seniors Centre held their Annual General Meeting with 47 members attending. Mayor Rick Bonnette congratulated us on the many volunteer hours our members have contributed to the Centre, and noted that without the volunteers many things would not be possible. Director of Recreation and Parks Terry Alyman spoke about the importance of the Strategic Plan for the seniors centres of Halton Hills and how it will help provide guidance in planning for the future of seniors in our community. Pat Frizzell gave the 2009 financial report and Centre Co-ordinator Wendy Krever thanked Councillor Jon Hurst for his hard work and commitment to the Acton Seniors Centre as our liaison with Halton Hills council. She mentioned Stephanie Frances has accepted a full-time position with the City of Toronto and Michelle Durham who had been working temporarily as the Administrative Assistant has been hired for the position. Wendy thanked council for their support of the recommendation that funds from the EPC grant be used to allow her to work an additional day at the Centre. Wendy also thanked the volunteers and outgoing board members Jill Tetreault, Pat Jones and Jane McAllister for all their hard work over the past three years. Margaret Anderson and Donna Rowley conducted the election for three vacant board positions. They presented three names: Pauline Barlow, Suzanne Blanchet-Haffey and Wendy Muir. There were no other nominations, so they were elected. Julie Conroy talked about the accomplishments of the Acton and Georgetown members work on the Strategic Plan. This included a "new look" to both centres' newsletters, a joint seniors' pamphlet and working on a joint website linked through the Halton Hills website. 23 Independent & Free Press, Thursday, March 4, 2010 Seniors Calendar Senior Men's Luncheon will be held 12 p.m. Thursday, March 11, at St. Andrews United Church, Mountainview Rd.
