Herta Hajek Herta Hajek started painting the day she retired. She signed up for an art course the first week after retiring and found a new passion. Over the years, she has worked in a variety of media from oils and watercolours to pastels and acrylics. Her impressionistic landscapes and portraits are inspired by her globetrotting, which has led her to places like Africa, Antarctica, Israel and India. Hajek, who also has a passion for photography, has taken thousands of photos during her travels and bases many of her paintings on them. "Travelling is a passion," Hajek says. "When I can do photography with it and make a painting afterwards, it's everything to me." Bea Dumbreck After careers in hairdressing and teaching, Bea Dumbreck is now taking her creativity and applying it the way she wants. "It's all in the doing. I may start off drawing an apple but it ends up being a violin," she says. "I can draw an object, but the child in me wants to do something else with it." Dumbreck works in a variety of media, including charcoal, acrylics, oils, pastels and mixed media. Her style covers the artistic spectrum from realism to abstract. For her, the subject dictates what she will do with it. "I don't like to be suck to one medium or subject," she says. "I don't just record what's here, I want to put my own spin on it."
