10 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday,March 23, 2010 Georgetown Spend an hour for the Earth Earth Hour is fast approaching. On Saturday, March 27, between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., Earth Hour will be celebrated around the world. Earth Hour's objective is to increase public awareness of the need to conserve energy and to take action against climate change. Last year, the Town achieved a 13.5 per cent energy consumption reduction! Around the world, Earth Hour reached about one billion people. Two years in a row, our community collaborated to make Earth Hour a success. This year, we hope to do the same by demonstrating that it is possible to take meaningful and practical local action against climate change. The participation of our residents, businesses and community organizations is key to achieving our goal. This year, we are again asking the community to demonstrate its commitment to protecting the environment by participating in Earth Hour! Earth Hour participation is voluntary, fun and informative.
