28 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, March 25, 2010 Announcement BOOKKEEPING STANDARDS ON THE RISE IN GEORGETOWN, ON Vancouver, BC The Institute of Professional Bookkeepers of Canada (IPBC) announces the certification of Sarah J. Simpson, of Georgetown, Ontario, as a Certified Professional Bookkeeper (CPB). Ms. Simpson owns Yorkshire Enterprises Inc. The IPBC's national mandate is to institute professional standards specifically for the Canadian bookkeeping profession. "More than 60,000 Canadians hang out their shingle as a `bookkeeper', yet competency in that industry ranges from stellar to mediocre," said Gordon Skillen, Executive Director of IPBC. "Who is the best professional to do the important compliance work required by law of business owners? There are millions of business owners across Canada who depend on the services of a bookkeeper. Business owners and employers will come to demand the CPB designation." Ms. Simpson received the national CPB designation after passing an exhaustive three-hour exam. Applicants must achieve at least 75 per cent in order to pass. The exam is based on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) accepted worldwide. Sarah J. Simpson, CPB, can be reached at (905) 8732697, by email at info@yorkshirent.com. or visit their website at www.yorkshirent.com For more information about the Institute of Professional Bookkeepers of Canada, visit www.ipbc.ca or call 604637-9607 or Toll Free 1-866-616-4722 (Pacific Time). Georgetown Children's Chorus presents Kid's Favourites, a compilation of songs chosen by the kids themselves. The Children's Chorus has 18 years of music to choose from, so the kids loved being able to choose the songs that they liked best. No surprises here, they mostly chose to sing popular music and songs that they grew up with. Here are a few of their favourites. The Cherubs (ages 5 and 6), chose Raffi's Baby Beluga, You've Got a Friend In Me from Aladdin and I Just Can't Wait To Be King from The Lion King. The Juniors (ages 7 and 8) chose The Wizard Of Oz medley and Can You Feel The Love Tonight from The Lion King. The Intermediates (ages 9 to 11) chose a medley from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus. The Performance and Senior choirs (up to age 18) chose Go The Distance, New York New York, Build Me Up Buttercup, You Raise Me Up, My Heart Will Go On, Don't Stop Believing and a Michael Jackson medley. Just to show that they are open to a musical challenge, they will also perform the difficult jazz song Old McDoodle Had A Band. Come and see 100 youngsters, doing what they love best-- singing for you! Kid's Favourites is playing Saturday, March 27 at the Georgetown Christian Reformed Church, 11611 Trafalgar Rd. Tickets for the 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. performances ($15 adults and $7 children) are available at the door or through choir members.
