Participants marched, or rode in World War 2 era military vehicles, the two kilometres from the Legion on Wright St. down Mill St. to the Cenotaph in front of Trinity United Church, where a Service of Remembrance was held. This was an opportunity to display marching and drill skills to all before, during and after the parade. Wellington-Halton Hills MP Michael Chong announced Friday the funding, which is to attract more people to the historic commercial districts of both communities. In Acton, the funding will be used to upgrade the parking lot on Mill St. and in Georgetown, it will go toward building a new 75-space parking lot on Edith St. and upgrade the parking lots on Draper and Back Sts. The money comes from the Community Adjustment Fund through Canada's Economic Action Plan, the federal government's two-yearplan to help the Canadian economy through the global recession. "These investments will not only help create local jobs in Acton and Georgetown, they will also help revitalize the historic commercial districts of these two vibrant communities," said Chong. "The Town worked closely with the Acton and Georgetown BIAs on this funding application and we are very pleased that this funding application has been approved," said Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette. "These two projects support over 200 businesses in the Town of Halton Hills, the Town's Shop Local program and the goals of both the Acton and Georgetown BIAs. The upgrades to parking are very important for the vibrancy of any downtown area." The parking improvements are to begin shortly and expected to be completed by the end of the year.
