14 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, May 6, 2010 Heritage designation sought for park The Town intends to designate Cedarvale Park under the Ontario Heritage Act. At a recent council meeting, Halton Hills Council passed a recommendation to take steps to designate the park (including Freeman-Bradley House, Cedarvale Community Centre and Cedarvale Cottage) as an Associative Cultural Landscape. The Town recognizes the Cedarvale Park property as a cultural heritage landscape because of its association with pioneering families, the Armenian Farm School and United Church Girls' School. The property was the pioneer farm of John and Catherine Freeman, descendants of the founder of the Halton village of Freeman. The property was later owned by the Bradley family, who named the property Cedar Vale Farm. It is associated with the William Bradley family who made significant contributions to the business community by opening The Dominion Seed House, which eventually became the largest mailorder seed business in Canada. The park is also associated with the Armenian Farm School, which took over the Bradley farm and worked the land as a training ground for genocide survivor Armenian orphans who called themselves "The Georgetown Boys". The property was later home to the Cedarvale School for Girls. The park is currently owned by the Town of Halton Hills. The public can view further information regarding the proposed designation at the Corporate Services Customer Service Counter at the Civic Centre. Written objections must be received by the Town's Corporate Services - Clerks by May 20. If there are no objections, the bylaw for designation is expected to be before council May 25, or at the following meeting June 14. A major component is to assist departments in developing an understanding of their spatial requirements. Members of the public are invited to attend and provide input on the Town of Halton Hills draft Official Plan Amendment to address Growth Plan Conformity (Urban Matters ­ 2031 Population and Employment Targets, Settlement Area Expansions, and other related matters), at this public meeting hosted by Town Council. Following this public meeting, Town staff will prepare a report to Council addressing public submissions received on the draft Official Plan Amendment to address Growth Plan Conformity (Urban Matters), and provide final recommendations regarding the adoption of the Official Plan Amendment. The Amendment contains the following revisions to the Official Plan necessary to achieve conformity to the Provincial Growth Plan and Regional Official Plan Amendment No. 38: · the replacement of the current 2021 planning horizon with a 2031 planning horizon, and the identification of a 2031 population of 94,000 people and employment of 43,000 jobs, for Halton Hills as a whole; · the expansion of the Georgetown Urban Area to include: Southwest Georgetown bounded by Trafalgar Road, Fifteen Side Road; Eighth Line (Main Street) and 10 Side Road; Southeast Georgetown bounded by the Tenth Line, 10 Side Road and the Hamlet of Norval; and the existing Hamlet of Stewarttown along with adjacent lands bounded by the CN Railway line and the Protected Countryside Area of the Greenbelt Plan; · the expansion of the 401/407 Employment Corridor by 340 gross hectares northwest of Steeles Avenue; · the incorporation of the Regional Natural Heritage System within the Georgetown Urban Area, and the 401/407 Employment Corridor expansion areas; · the integration of the existing Rural (Mansewood) Industrial Area into the Urban Area designated as General Employment Area; · the inclusion of a minimum Designated Greenfield Area density target of 39 residents and jobs per gross hectare, which is a blended figure for Georgetown and the 401-407 Employment Corridor, as well as updates to the housing unit mix; · the designation of the urban expansion areas of Georgetown and the 401/407 corridor as Future Residential/Mixed Use Area and Future Employment Area, respectively, and the inclusion of preliminary policy direction for those areas; · the inclusion of additional policy direction regarding employment land conversions, and the identification of Future Strategic Employment Areas (FSEA) with accompanying policies; and, · the inclusion of additional policy direction on phasing policies and regarding the preparation of Secondary Plans as per ROPA No. 38. Responsibilities: · Designing, developing, documenting, implementing, and maintaining a centralized geographic information system that accommodates use by all departments · Provide project management skills for corporate GIS application implementations. · Prepare and recommend budget information for GIS services within the Town. · Identify and recommend hardware and software requirements for the continuing implementation of GIS. · Identify resources (staffing and labour) requirements. · Chair GIS Advisory Committee, including Terms of Reference and Workplan, in consultation with other departments and the Manager of Information Services. · Organize and administer Data License and Sub-License agreements. · Identify, analyze and make recommendations to work processes for the purpose of improving efficiencies by automating tasks using GIS technology. · Perform other job related duties as assigned.
