Sprung Instant Structure Ltd. of Alberta manufactures arenas with an aluminum substructure, covered with a 20-year guaranteed architectural membrane. It is insulated to an R30 factor with a formaldehyde-free insulation along with air-conditioning and humidity reduction capabilities. Buying into such a building could mean arenas could be constructed in Georgetown and Acton sooner than conventional means and at a lower cost. If approved by Town council, the building would be a first for Ontario. The delegation of Ward 2 Councillor Bryan Lewis, chair of the Georgetown Arena Task Force (GATF), Mayor Rick Bonnette, vice-chair of the GATF); Terry Alyman, Director of Recreation and Parks; John Archibald, Facility Supervisor-Arenas; Carson Mininch, president of Georgetown Minor Hockey Association and Dave Eagan, president of Acton Minor Hockey Association, saw firsthand the manufacturing process and discussed Halton Hills's specific needs. Bonnette said, "It is important that we (Halton Hills) do our due diligence and see firsthand, such structures for ourselves, thus the merit for a quick, yet informative trip." Abbey Park won 29-17 while a construction crew put up fencing around the field, which will be torn up to make way for the Field of Dreams facility, slated to be ready for play in September.
