Head office `rubs out' Godfather's By EAMONN MAHER Staff Writer A few hundred Acton residents are cheesed off about the closing of a oncepopular take-out sub and pizza shop. Godfather's Pizza will dish out its last pie this Sunday, and in just a couple of days, word of the closure has resulted in about 300 residents expressing their dismay by joining a Facebook page dedicated to saving the restaurant, which opened in 1995. "It came as a shock to us," said store manager Sarah Seads, an employee for the past five years. "It's very sad. There are eight of us out of work and it's a difficult time to be looking for a job. A lot of people who come in here are really upset and I know that head office is getting complaints from customers." London, Ont.-based Tri Group Man- 11 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday, May 11, 2010 agement, which operates about two dozen Godfather's Pizza corporate stores across Ontario, didn't respond to a request for comment. Seads said she was told by Tri Group's head office that declining sales and the opening of a Domino's Pizza outlet in Acton this past February contributed to Godfather's closure. The Acton Godfather's store also provides pizzas once a week for students at McKenzie-Smith Bennett Public School at a discounted rate. Achilles Mazda leaving Acton for Milton After 33 years, Achilles Mazda is leaving Acton and heading south to Milton. The Queen Street dealership, which Les and Litsa Pelitis opened in 1972 as a repair facility, will relocate to a new showroom currently under construction at 1195 Steeles Avenue. "The decision to move did not come easily," says Achilles Pelitis Jr., dealer principal at Achilles Mazda. "It is not easy to depart a community that has steadfastly supported your business for over 33 years. Acton has been tremendous to my family. However, the opportunity that Milton presents to us is enormous. We are very excited." he adds. Although Achilles Mazda is moving, the dealership will still represent Acton, Georgetown and Milton as it has for the past three decades. "Our area of responsibility will simply be serviced from a new address. Same people, same Achilles quality," said Pelitis Jr. 1 Cubic Yard
