8 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday,June 1, 2010 SPORTS & LEISURE Bulldogs rally in third for 12th straight OLA victory Trailing in the third period for just the second time this season, the Halton Hills Bulldogs went into overdrive, scoring six unanswered goals to defeat the visiting Mimico Mountaineers 12-8 Saturday night in Ontario Lacrosse Association Jr. B play. With the victory, the Bulldogs improve to 120-0 with eight games remaining on the regular schedule. In another see-saw contest with their rivals from Mimico, the 'Dogs led 5-1 midway through the second frame before the Mounties struck for five straight goals of their own to take a brief 6-5 lead, then went up 8-6 with two early third-period markers. But shorthanded goals by Bulldogs Ethan O'Connor and Nic Grasby 38 seconds apart pulled the home side even and leading scorer Shane Scott scored two of his three goals on the evening to secure the two points in front NIC of about 350 spectators. GRASBY O'Connor, Justin Reid and Jordan Dance netted two goals each for Halton Hills, with singles added by Leland de Langley and Seth Laidlaw. Netminder Ryan Kelly was replaced by Dustin Hanzelka for the third period for the Bulldogs, who've allowed the fewest goals in the OLA this year at 47. The 'Dogs should face another tough test at home this Thursday as the 9-3-0 Newmarket Saints visit the Alcott Arena for an 8 p.m. start. Halton Hills is one of three undefeated teams remaining in the 27-team OLA Jr. B loop along with the 13-0-0 Clarington Green Gaels and Six Nations. The Bulldogs will travel to Bowmanville to face the defending OLA-champion Gaels a week from Thursday. Also last week, the Bulldogs dealt 21-yearold goaltender Michael Cregan to Orangeville Jr. B for future considerations.
