24 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, June 10, 2010 Raiders, Rangers affiliate The Georgetown Jr. A Raiders announced last week that they have reached an affiliation agreement for the 20102011 season with the Ontario Hockey League's Kitchener Rangers. Previously, the Raiders held an affiliation with the OHL's Owen Sound Attack under coach and general manager James Richmond, who left to take over the Aurora Tigers. He was replaced by former Sarnia Sting assistant coach Greg Walters in March. "The Rangers have a proud tradition both on and off the ice and we look forward to developing their prospects," Walters said. "(Rangers' coach and general manager) Steve Spott and I have played together and have known each other for many years and I am comfortable that both organizations will benefit from this new agreement." The Rangers are expected to contend for the OHL championship next year with most of last season's roster likely to return. GREG Kitchener WALTERS led the eventual Memorial Cup-champion Windsor Spitfires 3-0 in their best-of-7 Western Conference final series before the Spitfires won SPORTS & LEISURE the next four games. "Under the guidance of Greg Walters I am confident that our prospects that play with them will be prepared mentally and physically to play for us in the future," said Spott. "Greg is an elite coach who knows what it takes to play in the Ontario Hockey League. It is a great fit for us." In other Raiders' news, club owner Ted Nishi was elected as the executive chairman of the restructured Ontario Jr. A Hockey League at the recent annual general meeting in Newmarket The OJHL has merged with the Central Canadian Hockey League for next season and five teams have been contracted between the two loops. Bulldogs better Beaches For a team that's 2-12-0 in its first season at the Jr. B level, Toronto Beaches has hardly been a pushover for the Halton Hills Bulldogs. The host Beaches' side gave the 14-1-0 Bulldogs another tough test on Tuesday night, taking an early 3-1 lead and staying with the South East Division leaders until a four-goal second period outburst resulted in a 12-7 victory for Halton Hills at the Ted Reeve Arena. It was the third of four meetings between the two clubs during this Ontario Lacrosse Association season. Leading scorer Shane Scott (3), Jordan Dance, Connor Sellars, Pete Laidlaw, Michael Licata, Tyler Ferreira, Mike MacDonald, Ethan O'Connor, Jayson Crawford and Justin Reid provided the 'Dogs' offence. With five games remaining on the regular schedule, Halton Hills still has a chance to grab top spot in the OLA Eastern Conference, especially with a win tonight (Thursday) in Bowmanville against the 16-0-0 Green Gaels. The Bulldogs will also play host to the 3-11-0 Markham Ironheads Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Down the stretch Danny Saulnier (right) of Joseph Gibbons Public School in Georgetown reaches the finish line just ahead of runner-up Jamie Hilts of Harrison Public School in the 75m race for the 9-year-old boys' division at an elementary meet held in Acton recently. CtK's junior girls and boys are both gunning for Halton titles after shutting out the opposition in Monday's semifinal matches. Danielle Canhoto and Julia Chiovitti scored for the Lady Jags in their 2-0 triumph over Holy Trinity, while the CtK boys edged Bishop Reding 1-0. No scorer was reported.
