Plenty of toys for every dad By LOIS FRASER Special to the IFP Everyone knows that dads are just kids who never grew up. They never get tired of toys, no matter how young or how old they are. The Big Daddy Festival has lots of activities for the toy loving Dad. Cars: Yes, these are the all time favourite toys, especially if they are old cars, expensive cars, or rare cars. You've got all day to admire them (7 a.m to 4 p.m., admission is $6 for adults) on June 20 at the Classics Against Cancer show in Cedarvale Park. Start off nice and early to leave time to head to Downtown Georgetown afterwards to be in the Daddy Long Legs competition, the street hockey tournament or to try your hand at arm wrestling. If you chicken out on these, sit down in the Chill Zone and enjoy some Steam Whistle brew and a big pulled pork sandwich. Anybody 19 or over can do that one. Motorcycles: Oh yeah, motorcycles... the forbidden fruit.Come and see hundredsof motorcycles, all makes and models, at the third annual Show & Shine Motorcycle Show at the Price Chopper plaza on Guelph Street in Georgetown. The show is held between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. You'll see classic bikes, new custom bikes and incredible paint jobs. A few police Harleys are usually on hand. There is no entrance fee to watch and you can even vote for your favourite bike. It's not too late to enter your bike, if you own one, but you must be there at 10 7 Big Daddy Tuesday, June 15, 2010 Classic cars, mean machines on display Continued from pg. 1 And don't forget there will be hot rods and special categories for trucks that are wild power houses with 500plus horses under the hood and many others. There will be special activities for the kids like face painting. Refreshments will be available all day so stay for a hot dog lunch or maybe a large plate of fries or if it is hot (we hope) you can enjoy ice cream and pop. There will be entertainment and live music provided by country and western band The Dixons. Well-known local businessman, Neil Young, started this show all those years ago. It was basically a few cars at a strawberry social and has grown to the great event it is today. This year all net proceeds from this event will go to the Childhood Cancer Campaign. Not forgetting this event has raised well over $400,000 towards the battle against this dreaded disease. It is also a time to reflect on those suffering from or having died from one of so many forms of this disease. For further details contact Danny Edwards at danielr@cinemas3.ca or check www.classicsagainstcancer.ca or call Chris Miller, 905-877-6826. a.m. to sign up. Competition participants make a donation to raise funds for Autism Halton. Mighty Machines: Kids and dads love to see machines and the bigger, the better. If you've only seen a snowplow when it's dressed in white, this toy's for you. See it at Prospect Park in Acton on Saturday night and then stay to watch the testosteronefilled Iron Man, courtesy of Party Cinemas. You can also see the Mighty Machines on Sunday at the Moldmasters SportsPlex. Boats: Beaumont Mill Antiques & Collectibles, 586 Main St. in Glen Williams is hosting three boat activities on both June 19 and 20 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. At the "Boats for Folks" event four kids will build a 12' rowboat beginning Saturday morning. It will be ready to launch on Sunday afternoon. There will be opportunities for hands-on tool demonstrations and participation. The youth partner for this event is Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Halton Hills and Sheridan Nurseries is the generous sponsor. At the "Kidz Zone" Activity Centre, there will be a 10' x 20' pond, where kids up to age of 12 can build a 10" sailboat and sail it on the pond! This is a free event, but take-home kits are available for a donation to Kids & Classics Boatshops. And what Dad doesn't want to see an Antique Boat Show? A display of six antique boats repaired or restored by the volunteers will be set up on the grass areas at the Beaumont Mill. For more visit www.bigdaddyfestival.ca.
