Halton Hills council approved this month a change to the taxi tariff drop rate to be increased to $3.50 (including the Harmonized Sales Tax), and the per kilometer rate be increased to $1.75 and the waiting while engaged per hour rate be increased to $27 and the waiting while engaged per minute rate be increased to 45 cents. As well, Halton Hills council revised a policy that the 20 per cent seniors discount on taxi fares be applied to trips solely within Halton Hills borders. The last time Halton Hills raised rates was in Janury 2008-- the first time in 14 years-- to compensate for the rising fuel costs. The $1.75 per kilometre rate also incorporates a small 15-cent raise for the taxi drivers. The rate change from $1.50 with the 8 per cent only would have been $1.60. But the owners of three Halton Hills taxi companies requested the extra increase at a committee meeting before the council decision. See TAXI, pg. 5 Sweet smell of summer is here!
