To celebrate Robbie Burns Day, which is today (Wednesday), the Oakville Museum is toasting its ancestral ties to Scotland with an in-house display showcasing a selection of Chisholm-family objects. The exhibit runs until March 19. In May 1827, the Scotsman William Chisholm petitioned Lieutenant Governor Sir Peregrine Maitland for the sale of reserve lands on the Sixteen Mile Creek. At public auction in August 1827, Chisholm purchased 960 acres of these reserve lands and proceeded to found and plan the Town of Oakville. Now, people can see the Chisholm family's proud Scottish heritage in a collection of heirlooms at the museum at Erchless Estate on Navy Street. The museum is located at 8 Navy St. For more information, visit www.oakville.ca/ museum.
